Gym Games Schedule

 

1. Dribble Knockout- 6 people (per grade)

2. Hula Hoop Chain- 10 people (per grade)

3. Caterpillar- 10 people (per grade)

4. Circle Race- 10 people (per grade)

5. Musical Chairs - 6 people (per grade)

6. Medley Race + Moderator- 5 people (per grade)

 

Total Participants: 47 per grade 

 

Gym Game Rules:

 

Dribble Knockout - Each player has a basketball.  Three players from each grade will compete inside the rectangular lane on each side (12 per lane, 24 total participants).  The players must maintain a live dribble while remaining inside the lane while simultaneously trying to knock the ball away from other competitors.  A player is eliminated when he/she has the ball knocked out of the lane, picks up the ball, or the player is physically outside of the lane. The final 2 from each side will face off in the circle at center court.  Last grade standing - 4 points, 2nd left - 3 points etc. (4 3 2 1 Scoring)  Participants: 3 boys and 3 girls per grade

 

Hula Hoop Chain - Members of the team link up arm to arm.  A hula hoop must be passed through all 10 people in the chain without anyone letting go of the other contestants’ arms.  If the chain breaks then the race must start over at the beginning. (4 3 2 1 scoring) Participants: 10 students per grade

 

Caterpillar - Competitors sit at one end of the gym in a line.  The lead person must be behind the red line at the end of the court.  Each competitor must hold the ankles of the competitor behind her/him.

The race consists of the team moving in unison without breaking the caterpillar.  The first team whose FIRST person crosses the far side red line is the winner.  Teams are disqualified if the caterpillar breaks.  First across is 4, second is 3, etc.  In the event that 2 teams disqualify, the team that made it farther will score the higher number of points (4 3 2 1 scoring)  Participants: 10 students per grade  

 

Circle Race - Contestants lay on the floor facing a center cone.  One by one participants must get up and run around the other 9 participants. The next participant can go only when the one before hits the ground in their original spot.  First team with all 10 participants finishing a circle wins (4 3 2 1 scoring) .   Participants: 10 students per grade

 

Musical Chairs - 6 contestants per grade will compete in the final event. No touching the chairs while the music is playing, and no jumping over the chairs (4 3 2 1 scoring) .  Participants: 6 students per grade

 

Medley Race - This is a 5-leg relay race - 5 students plus a grade moderator.  The legs will be run side to side (not full length basketball court).  The legs are as follows:

 

  • balloon popping - Contestant must transport a balloon without using their hands - holding the balloon with their legs - across the floor and then pop the balloon without the use of their hands.  

  • 3 legged race - Two contestants, leg is across and back.wheelbarrow race - One contestant and one student council member - leg is across and back.  Contestants switch on the far side.

  • waiter race - One contestant, leg is across and back.  Contestant picks up 2 plates filled with ping pong balls and must transport them across and back without spilling the ping pong balls.  If there are any drops the contestant must return to the nearest sideline and re-start.

  • penny race (this is the moderator race) - Faculty moderator will cross and return with a penny on their shoe.  If the penny falls off they must return to the edge of the court and re-start.

  • First team to complete all 5 legs wins (4 3 2 1 scoring)  

 

Participants: 5 students per grade plus one faculty moderator and one Student Council member
